It is one of the questions we hear most at the counter, and the answer is simpler than it sounds: an Americano starts life as an espresso.
Small and intense
Espresso is coffee brewed by pushing hot water through finely ground, tightly packed coffee under pressure. The result is small, concentrated and topped with a layer of golden crema. It is intense, syrupy and over in a few sips.
Long and easy
An Americano is a shot or two of that espresso, topped up with hot water. The flavor of the espresso is still there, but stretched into a longer, lighter cup you can sit with.
An Americano starts life as an espresso. It just takes its time.
So which one is for you? If you love bold flavor and a quick, focused moment, go for espresso. If you want something to sip slowly through a conversation or a chapter of a book, the Americano is your friend.
And if you cannot decide, ask for both. Tasting them side by side is the quickest way to find your favorite.
